Opening Lecture of our Business and Human Rights Series

Our opening lecture of the Business and Human Rights Series was held on May 1, 2017 in our Geneva office.

To open these series of workshop sessions, we were very honored to welcome François Zimeray, France's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark, and former France's ambassador at large for human rights. He delivered a lecture on:

"How Human rights impact global business strategies?"

François Zimeray has a wide human rights expertise and practice, both in the private sector and public affairs. Member of the Paris Court of Appeal Bar, he practiced as attorney-at-law during twenty-one years, partner of Jeantet&Associes, a renowned business law firm in Paris. He was elected Mayor at the age of 27 and Member of the European Parliament at 37. François Zimeray then decided to focus his career on the advancement of human rights, a cause very important to him since childhood. He joined the French Foreign service in 2008 as France's Ambassador-at-large for Human Rights. In this capacity, he accomplished more than 100 field missions around the world and brought his support to leading figures such as Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Mikhail Khodorkovsky or Ioulia Tymoshenko. He represented France at a UN level at several occasions. In Geneva, he defended three times the French Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council. Since 2013, François Zimeray serves as France's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. On February 2015, he survived a terror attack in Copenhagen, while attending a debate on free speech.

FRORIEP, in collaboration with the Act On Your Future Foundation, organises series of workshops on business and human rights. The workshops provide insights on the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and serve as a way to identify, exchange and promote best practices and lessons learned on the implementation of the UNGPs.

The next workshop will take place on June 15, 2017.
