Dr. Anne Laure Bandle will speak at a conference on the liability of auction houses for misattributing consigned property and for selling "sleepers".

11. Oktober 2016

The full-day conference on the "Risks in the attribution of works of art: expert practices and legal considerations" is organised by the Art Law Foundation and the Art-Law Centre, University of Geneva, at BNP Paribas.

Experts, art historians and lawyers will discuss the attribution both of ancient and contemporary art as it is actually dealt with in practice and from a historical perspective. The speakers will also assess the liability of dealers, experts and guarantors, as well as major issues tied to the attribution practice, such as artists who disavow their works, the dominant market position of authenticators and conflicts of interest. The conference will include a round table discussion which will examine new avenues to improve the authentication process and the security in and quality of expertise.

This conference will also launch Anne Laure's book on "The Sale of Misattributed Artworks and Antiques at Auction" under Swiss, English and United States law, published by Edward Elgar Publishing.
