Geneva: Administrative Court judgement

On 27 March 2012, the Geneva Administrative Court ruled that the annual tax of CHF 400 imposed by the Canton of Geneva on out-of-canton taxi drivers breached the Internal Market Statute.
A Valaisian taxi company, based in Verbier, was fined on the occasion of a control made at Geneva airport. The Court judged that the authorization obligation imposed by the Canton of Geneva restricts free access to the market and therefore breaches Swiss federal law.
The Valaisian taxi company, a member of ASTAG (the Swiss Commercial Vehicles Association), was successfully represented in court by Nicolas Iynedjian, Céline Courbat and Mathieu Blanc of Froriep Renggli and by the Competition Commission. ASTAG actively supported the case, acting for the benefit of all its members.
